Dealing with Expectations - Billy Donovan

A good friend of mine and #movingup workshop alumni Neil Harrow the assistant coach at Troy University sent me a link from the "What Drives Winning" conference earlier this summer.  Billy Donovan the former head coach at the University of Florida and current head coach of the Oklahoma Thunder sat down with Brett Ledbetter and had a candid conversation about "Dealing with Expectations".  It is a tremendous piece with nuggets all over the place!  Here are just a few...

If I perform well -> I am loved

If I don’t perform well -> I am unloved

Characteristics of his Best Teams

1. Love

2. Care

3. Acceptance

If you feel these 3 things, your life feels enriched

Having a commitment to each other – makes everything better

We are in a daily battle with human nature – Life is fulfilling when you can battle human nature – If you allow human nature to win you won’t be able to reach your full potential.

You must be on a quest to expose your players to the reality of the situation.

Excellence is not normal its abnormal… if you are trying to achieve the abnormal then your approach can’t be normal…
