Empathy... you need it!

“Empathy is seeing with the eyes of another, listening with the ears of another and feeling with the heart of another.” – Alfred Adler

Woke up this morning not in the greatest of spirits – could be because I’ve been traveling a good amount and there are times where I don’t even know what city and hotel I’m waking up in until I grab my cup of coffee!

Besides the word leadership… When people talk about relationships The word empathy is always throwing around… There are these so-called experts who give tips on empathy but how many of us really practice that simple concept?

I know that I’ve always felt I’ve done a really good job in my relationships but as time goes on I realize that I was lacking Something, I was lacking empathy...

I’d be lying if I told you when I first heard the word I knew what the hell that meant… I did a simple Google search and so many things came up and I was astonished and embarrassed that it’s something I have struggled with my whole life…

Here I was believing I was an empathetic guy but in fact it was the completely the opposite… This revelation in my life has been opening my eyes ever since… I still struggle with it but I know now what I must do… I realize that once empathy is exercised in relationships, harder conversations can occur but even better connections can be made!

When you can show the ability To understand their experience (whether it be hurt, pain, longing or frustration), it makes them feel heard, understood and relieved. It sends the message, YOU get it!

I’m not saying it’s easy but I’m saying it’s worth it… Put yourself in their shoes and you will have a totally different experience!

Love you guys!
